Are you ready to program a DISH remote and don’t know where to start? With these easy instructions, you will be able to program a DISH remote and begin enjoying your high-definition television programming from DISH Network in no time at all.

First, turn the power to the television on, and you will see four translucent buttons (called function buttons) at the top of the remote that light up red to indicate which of the four modes is being used at the time. The four lighted function buttons are “SAT,” “TV,” “VCR,” and “AUX.” Follow these steps carefully to program a DISH remote:

Press and hold the TV button down until all four function buttons light up.

Release the TV button.

Quickly press and release either the smaller red TV power button or the singular red power button, depending on the remote control model you have. The TV function button will now blink and then go to a steady red light.

Using the up/down navigation arrows, you will start by repeatedly pressing, and then releasing the up arrow until your TV turns off. Each time you press a button, the TV function will blink. Between each press of the button, give your TV time to respond by powering off.

When your TV is off, lock in the code by pressing and releasing the pound key (#) at the bottom right-hand side of the DISH remote. Set the remote back to “SAT” by pressing and releasing the SAT button at the top left of the DISH remote.

Press the TV power button (red) and make sure that you can power on and off your TV as well as control the volume using the remote’s volume “Up” and “Down” buttons.

Now it’s easy to program a DISH remote. Simply follow these directions step by step, and you’ll have no trouble getting your DISH Network satellite TV system up and running. Keep in mind we have DISH Network customer service on hand 24 hours a day, seven days a week to assist you.

To receive DISH Network broadcast signals, your dish must be positioned correctly, and even only a very slight misalignment of your satellite dish can disrupt the whole process.

DISH Network provides free installation when you activate DISH service; DISH highly recommends that you allow a trained professional installer to set up your satellite dish to get the best results possible.

If you choose to install your own dish, you must follow the instructions very carefully, and you cannot turn on your system’s power until all wires are connected. Failure to follow this important instruction can result in damage to your system’s components. Here are the steps for aiming your dish to get the best reception:

First consult the DISH Network table of “look angles” by zip code, or you can use one of the many online utilities to calculate the required dish angles for you.

Use a level to see that the mounting mast is level; if it’s not, you will not get the right look angle regardless of how accurate your adjustments seem to be.

You should begin by adjusting what is called the azimuth—the right-to-left orientation of the satellite dish. Using a compass, you should be able to find the correct setting in the sky and then tighten the azimuth adjustment bolt.

Next, loosen the elevation adjustment bolts and tilt the dish to the desired angle. Consult the guide near the adjustment bolts to help you get the right angle. If necessary, you may have to adjust the skew, which can be done by loosening the skew adjustment nut at the back of the dish—it turns like a steering wheel.

Finally, you should consult the on-screen guide of your receiver to check the strength of your signal. Select “menu,” “system setup,” “installation,” and then “point dish.” Your signal meter should be green and locked. If it is not green and locked, you must make slight adjustments to the azimuth and elevation until you lock in the best possible signal. Above 80 is your goal and 100 is the best signal you can get.
